REPORTS TO:  School Principal(s) – Immediate Supervisor(s)

                           Superintendent – General Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or satisfactory completion of General Educational Development (GED).
  2. Competencies in communicating orally and written, use of technology, and strong inter-personal skills.

JOB GOAL:

The Campus Security Guard promotes attitudes of student responsibility and assists the professional staff with the safety of students, staff and facilities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Patrols and guards district building and grounds to prevent truancy, fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.
  2. Conduct patrol inspections during working hours of doors, windows and gates to determine security.
  3. Patrol and monitor hallways, stairwells, toilet facilities, outside facilities, and other public and unsupervised places of the school to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff, and security of the facility.
  4. Ensure a smooth traffic flow of students through the hallways, assisting students with on-time arrival to class and to assigned locations.
  5. Assist with supervision during the breakfast and lunch periods and with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of students.
  6. Remove disruptive students from classes when needed.
  7. Assist the professional staff, police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situations.
  8. Notify immediately appropriate personnel of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, or controlled substances.
  9. Assist visitors with directions and secure proper identification.
  10. Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, or calls school principal(s) or police for assistance, according to district policy. If necessary, escort them to exits.
  11. Report any discipline infractions, unauthorized visitors, and acts of vandalism to the principal. Notify the building administration, police and/or appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous, or unusual situations.
  12. Patrols school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles; check vehicles for parking authorization; determine if vehicle is parked in restricted area, such as near fire hydrant or in driveway; and check exterior lighting and emergency access routes.
  13. Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs including restraining workshop.
  14. Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel and outside agencies associated with the school.
  15. Protect confidentiality of records and information about students and staff; use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.
  16. Perform all other assigned tasks requested by supervisor(s).

  6. Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
  7. Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities.
  8. Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment.
  9. Position is identified as Heavy-Duty.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9-Month position



EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
