QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current New Mexico Teaching License - Specialty Area Pre K-12 with Visual Arts or Performing Arts endorsement
  2. Highly qualified
  3. Demonstrates cooperativeness and a willingness to carry-out assigned tasks and performance responsibility

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Comply with the state approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and uphold and enforce department/unit rules, administrative directives and regulations, Board Policy, and State and Federal regulations.
  2. Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music and in instrumental music (band, mariachi, guitar, instrumental ensemble) and choral music to students.
  3. Instruct students in citizenship, expected student behavior, and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the Las Vegas School district.
  4. Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  5. Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  6. Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  7. Control the storage and use of school-owned property; make minor adjustments and request repairs to instruments as required.
  8. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly productive environment during practice, group rehearsals and musical performances.
  9. Evaluate each student’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
  10. Plan, rehearses, and direct students in musical programs for school and community.
  11. Select and requisition books, musical instruments, instructional aids and maintain required inventory records.
  12. Communicate with parents on student’s progress and behavior.
  13. Identify student needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  14. Cooperate with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, ceremonies and civic functions.
  15. Supervise students in and out of classroom activities as assigned.
  16. Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments and revisions, and implement EPSS.
  17. Gather data in order to develop strategies for student improvement.
  18. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities to include; in and out of school activities as outlined in board policy.
  19. Maintain professional competencies through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected or assigned professional growth activities related to music.
  20. Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
  21. Provide directions and materials for substitute teachers.
  22. Safeguard the confidentiality of privileged information.
  23. Must be technology literate.
  24. Perform other tasks as deemed appropriate and necessary by the administrator.

EVALUATION: Performance of the job will be conducted by the Principal
