Cathy Gallegos Principal

Welcome to the 2017-18 school year. Now housing 4th, 5th, and 6th, Sierra Vista has experienced an exciting series of changes that have provided teachers and administrators with new opportunities for teacher collaboration and student academic and social development.

Previous to consolidation, teachers who taught the same grade, but were placed in different schools, were presented with few opportunities to learn from each other. These teachers can now collaborate on a daily basis. The implementation of a block schedule affords teachers with extended time to teach in greater depth and vary their instruction. On Mondays and Thursdays, teachers emphasize language arts. Tuesdays and Fridays are dedicated to math, and Wednesdays focus on science and social studies. Students study Spanish and participate in one elective on a daily basis. Sierra Vista has also updated classroom technologies, and every class is equipped with a new document camera and touchscreen television.

At Sierra Vista, we are concerned with more than just a child’s academic development. Sierra Vista Sierra Vista will be introducing two new programs to support student social and emotional development. Positive Behavioral Interventions Supports (PBIS) offers a framework for promoting a positive school culture, and Kids at Hope is a system for transforming schools to foster optimistic attitudes.

I am looking forward to working with you and your children this year. Please contact me if you have questions or concerns.
